Powerlifters excel at invitational

PowerliftersThe Belton High School boys and girls powerlifting teams competed at the Belton Invitational at Lake Belton Middle School last weekend.Belton Tigers' and Lady Tigers' powerlifting teams competed in their home tournament, the Belton Invitational Powerlifting meet, at Lake Belton Middle School last Saturday.

A total of 186 lifters participated in the event: 149 boys and 37 girls. Belton fielded 46 boys and 20 girls for the meet.

The Lady Tigers dominated their portion of the meet with 71 points, 52 points better than runner-up Copperas Cove.

The Lady Tigers winning their weight classes were: Ally Morales (97), YeYa Jaimes (105), Mari Cortez (114), Selena Rutherford (123), Haley LeBlanc (132), Kyler Watkins (148), Susan James (181), Olivia Warehime (220) and Skylar King (220+).

Lady Tigers' placing in the top five in their weight classes were: Alyssa Czehowski (second in 97), Mia Garcia (second in 105), Kaylee Peebles (fourth in 105), Lauren Hightower (second in 114), Jenny Newberry (second in 123), Audrey Linder (fourth in 123), Madison Winkler (second in 148), Autumn Conley (second in 165), Abby Dolan (second in 181), Nikki Valdez (third in 181) and Chloe Lewis (220+).

The Tigers placed second in the meet with 36 points, 10 points behind Temple.

A great number of Tigers' lifters placed in the top five in their weight classes for the meet.

The Tigers lifters placing first in their weight classes were: Abraham Villareal (114) and Xavier Moffitt (148).

Tiger lifters also placing in the top five in their classes were: Johnny Martinez (second in 123), Quintin Cannon (third in 123), Cameron Przybylski (fourth in 123), Pete Contreras (second in 132), Brian White (fifth in 132), Brandon Julian (third in 165), Ben Munoz (fourth in 165), Stephen Snyder (fifth in 165), Tevin Jones (second in 181), Ryan Vincent (fifth in 198), Rayshawn Jones (fifth in 220), Koby Williams (fourth in 242), Rodarius Burks (second in 275) and Brandon Sullivan (fourth in 275).

Xavier Moffitt (boys 114-165), YeYa Jaimes (girls 97-165) and Susan James (girls 180-220) received Lifters of the Meet for their respective classes.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will be in action this weekend at the Wildcat Invitational in Temple and Georgetown Invitational at Georgetown Eastview.
