Lady Tigers ended up tied in overtime

Photo by David TumaFor Belton it was back-to-back overtime games that might have done them in with a tie that seemed like a loss for a program that has only lost one game in the past 70. The two toughest district games are back-to-back against Temple and Consolidated. When nobody can even tie you for year’s that is how far the program has come in the past decade.

Belton dominated the meeting against A&M Consolidated and led most of the game by a goal. The Lady Tigers had their chances to put it away but they had several shots hit the post and several great saves by the Consolidated goalkeeper. Consolidated got four shots off on goal to Belton’s 14 but they hit the one that counted. In overtime both teams were winded with Consolidated getting no shots off on goal and the Lady Tigers had two. Belton’s stout defense allowed only two shots on goal the final 60-minutes of play.

Kallie Lahey and Alex Burke had stops early. Hadley Young set up August Kohutek who’s shot went over the goal keeper and just under the bar to make it 1-0 Lady Tigers from 25-yards out at 34:08.

Taylor Pressley cleared a Consolidated corner kick. Carina Dunnahoo set up a corner kick off a blocked shot on goal at 31:36. Burke added another stop at 24:56. Kelsie Darr had a save at 18:45 off of Consolidated’s first shot on goal. Burke and Lahey added another stop at 17:49. Lauren Van Orden had a stop at 8:41. Lahey and Burke on a four-on-three had a stop with no shot allowed at 6:05

Pressley one-on-one had a stop to start the second half with Belton up 1-0. Jamie Boone set up Jourdan Brown whose shot was stopped. Madie Coufal and Darr had a stop at 31:17. Burke added another. Young almost had a shot go in at 30:15. Pressley came up out of the back of the defense and stopped a breakaway at 29:05 and passed to Boone who set up Dunnahoo for a shot on goal.

Boone to Brown then left to Dunnahoo who passed to Young who’s shot was blocked. They were all one-touch passes and the crowd went nuts. Dunnahoo had a shot blocked setting up a corner kick at 26:30. Van Orden to Brown to Boone who’s shot was blocked at 19:27. Jamie Tish’s shot was just over the top bar and it looked like it was going to go in at 14:25. Just a beautiful shot by Tish.

Consolidated on a breakaway drove the length of the field and scored. Belton wisely fouled the player near midfield and it was called but the head ref didn’t see the foul and goal counted.

Boone drew a free kick near the top of the box. Pressley got the rebound off the free kick and the shot slid past the goalkeeper and was just wide at 3:41. Belton set up a corner kick at 3:05. Dunnahoo set up a free kick in the second over time. Boone had a shot on goal and Brown on a crossing pass almost set up Young who just missed the pass. The game ended in a tie with Belton having to travel to Consolidated later in the second half of the season.
