The BHS Tigers #1 golf team competed in the 19-team field of schools at the 2010 5A Boys Marvin Dameron Invitational at Midway  last Saturday. Klein Oak won the championship in a tie-breaker playoff against Vista Ridge at the Twin Rivers course.

“We played pretty well the first day, but not so well on Saturday,” head coach Jimmy Hellums commented. “Looks like we still have some things to get fixed before district.”

Despite having an off-day on the second round, Belton still finished 13 strokes ahead of all but one of the teams representing our district. Three of our district schools finished at the very bottom.

Individual Tiger results:  Zach Plunk, Travis Hites, Chris Sanders, Levi Huddleston and Nick Ratliff.

Meanwhile, the number three Tiger Golf team was the runnerup and placed two team members on the All-Tournament squad at the Troy High School Invitational Wednesday, Feb 17, at Greenbriar Golf Club.

Lago Vista took first among the seven schools competing with a 350 total. Belton was seven strokes back at 357.

Host Trojans of Troy finished 22 strokes behind Belton, followed by Moody, Bruceville-Eddy, Troy II and Bruceville-Eddy II.

Jonathan Paysee carded an 80 for first place medalist and he and A.J. Fallaice, who shot a 91, were selected to the All-Tournament team. Other members of coach Hellums’s second-place team were Bryan Kirchmeier and TY Walsh, who each had a 93, and Ty Barber, one shot back at 94.
