Tigers dominate power lifting meet

The Belton Tigers strong-armed their way to the championship at last Saturday’s powerlifting meet in Lake Belton Gym. The boys team posted a total score of 51 points, seven ahead of Waco Midway and more than doubling the total points scored by each of the other schools, Copperas Cove, Waco and Temple.

The Lady Tigers also gave a strong showing at the meet, garnering three 1st place finishes, a pair of 2nd places and one 5th place to take third overall in the girls division. They finished three points behind the winner, Waco Midway, and only two points behind second-place Copperas Cove.

In the boys individual standings:

Nico Lopez and Sergio Valenzuela were first and second in the 114 lb weight class with total lifts of 755 and 690.

In the 123 class, Greg Palmour finished second with a total lift of 700 lbs.

Rolando Salazar won the 132 weight class with a 985 total and Enrique Gonzales, third with 720 lbs.

Kevin Atherton was again first in his 148 weight class , posting a total lift of 1205. Robert Martinez, fourth with 865, and Tyson Eno fifth with 835 total.

Thomas Tywon won the 165 weight class with a total of 1135,

Devin Patterson finished fifth in the 181 class with 1060 lbs.

Frankie Iriarte was fifth with 1175 in his 198 weight class.

In the 220lb class, Charleston Lewis was second with 1230 total and Brandon Harding finished third with 1190.

Ricky Alvarez was first in the 242 class with a total lift of 1300 while Zach McCart was fifth with 1090.

In the 275 weight class, Stephen Honeywood came in second with a lift of 1375.

Zack Villanueva finished third in the super heavyweight class with a total lift of 1060 lbs.

In the Lady Tigers individual postings:

Candice Stiles was named Best Lifter of the Meet in the lightweight class. Stiles muscled her way to a 1st place finish in the 123 pound weight class with a total lift of 665 lbs.

Lexie Hoffman was 5th in the 123 class with a 315 total.

Kaitlyn St. Clair took 1st place in the 132 lb class with a total of 460.

Sierra Walker finished 2nd in the 148 weight class with a total of 685 lbs.

Leticia Alvarado was 2nd in her 165 class with a 715 total lift.

Stevie Vianes took 1st place in the 198 weight class with a total lift of 490.
