BACC to host ‘Meet Belton’ event
Monday, 03 October 2011 by Matthew Girard
The city of Belton is hoping to serve the military community better.
On Monday, military families are invited to join community leaders at the Harris Community Center for the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce's "Meet Belton" event, which focuses on getting feedback from military families on how the city can serve them better.
"It's to say thank you to our military families, but also to bring them in and get feedback from them on things we, as a city, can do to better assist them," city council member Craig Pearson said. "We are talking about all components of the city, the schools, the churches, the city proper, the medical side and the whole nine yards."
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served free of charge at 6 p.m. with the discussion to follow.
"We will have some speakers, but it's not really about listening to them — it's about listening to the families and having representatives from the key (city) players so they can get information," Pearson said.
Pearson said serving the military community is important to the city of Belton.
"We can't be supportive enough or say thank you enough to our military," Pearson said. "We have a reputation of being the most military-friendly place that you could ever come because they know they are welcome here and they know our schools are top notch."
During the event, childcare will be provided to elementary-aged children and younger.
Also, the Belton Area Military Spouses Support (B.A.M.S.S.) will have a booth for information at the event.
For more information or to coordinate childcare, contact Mark Arrazola at (254) 939-3551 or Craig Pearson at (254) 939-0705.
The "Meet Belton" event is also sponsored by the Belton Independent School District, RSC Equipment Rental and the City of Belton.
