Scott & White offers injury clinic

In the world of athletics, time is of essence.

Scott & White Sports Medicine, a division of the Scott & White Bone and Joint Institute will host a Saturday morning sport injury clinic at the Scott & White Westfield Clinic in Temple.

The clinic, which started on Sept. 3, is designed to help injured student-athletes and their parents, coaches and athletic trainers.

"Evaluation of acute athletic injuries by an orthopedic surgeon on a Saturday morning is our intent" said Billy Ray Laxton, S&W Athletic Trainer. "We also provide x-ray, bracing, casting and crutches for care of these injuries.

"The clinic has seen volleyball players, football players and soccer players — if it is being played, we are seeing them."

Craig Bower, Belton High School Athletic Trainer, welcomed the clinic as a great service to athletes.

"It was a great deal about 10 years ago and I am so glad it is available again to Central Texas athletes," Bower said.

The clinic will continue each Saturday morning through Nov. 5. Registration starts at 8:30 am and is located at the Scott & White Westfield Clinic, 7556 Honeysuckle in Temple.

Andy Wilson, Harker Heights High School Athletic Trainer stated that the clinic is "a wonderful deal for his program to get an x-ray the next day so we know what we are up against."

Holland assistant coach P.J. Williams echoed the same sentiments and adding that "coaches want to know quickly about injuries because it can change the game plan in a heart beat."

Parents, coaches and athletic trainers are encouraged to come with their student-athletes.
