BVFD begins ‘Santa Pals’ project

For about three-quarters of a century, the Belton Volunteer Fire Department has conducted a special program for Belton's needy children. That included children who might not have Christmas otherwise. About 25 years ago the project was formally named Santa Pals.
Well, the Belton Volunteer Fire Department Santa Pals are at it again. "And we need all the help we can get, according to Lee Rivenberg, department drive chairman.
Nov. 7-Dec. 9 they need volunteers at the Temple Help Center to register applicants for Christmas assistance.
Volunteers will assist by filling out Santa Pal registration forms and verifying that all registered have shown proper documentation. A training class will be Nov. 5. The project includes Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m at the Temple Help Center, 102 E. Central Ave., Temple.
The program serves children 18 months through 12 years. The Temple Help Center can only accept applications from residents of Belton or Temple. Others need to apply to the Salvation Army or St. Vincent De Paul.
