Kids Night Out takes place every month and the theme each month is always different. Last month the theme was "Wizard of Oz" and this month, "Wild, Wild West."

"It was a fun event for the kids," Cheryl Caballero said. "We gave parents the opportunity to enjoy an evening together while their kids had fun in a safe environment."

More than 70 children attended the event and 10 BCYC staff members participated.

The event, which took place last Friday, was open to the public and had a variety of games centered on the Wild, Wild West theme including horseshoes, hat toss and archery. There was also a country karaoke booth.

Upon arriving at the center, children were served dinner before the different rooms were open for games.

"Usually we serve pizza for dinner at the Kids Night Out, but in keeping with the theme we had hot dogs, nachos and chilies," said Caballero, who has been organizing Kids Night out for eight years. "In the different game rooms, kids got to either watch a movie or play pool or play other fun games and this was exciting for them because they don't usually get to do that during the day."

Caballero said that although the BCYC maintains the same themes, each year is different.

"At last year's Wild, Wild West we had plastic guns and this year we tweaked the event a little by introducing archery," Caballero said.

Kids Night Out is always popular as it is an opportunity for the BCYC children to interact with other children of various ages.

During the day, BCYC separates children by age and gender and this monthly event is an opportunity to break away from the norm in a fun and safe manner.

Kids Night Out was yet another successful program hosted by BCYC, which strives to provide exciting opportunities for children after school.
