The BHS track regional qualifiers are ready for the big meet next week --- The Tigers and Lady Tigers tuned up last Friday at Harker Heights by taking five first-place finishes in a meet that included regional qualifiers and alternates from 14 different schools. Now, it's on to the Region II 5-A Track and Field Meet next Monday and Tuesday (April 3-4) at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track Complex.
Belton's Tigers dominated their opponents for 104 points.
Brodrick Crain and Darrius White were first and second in the 100-meter dash at 10:58 and 10:78, respectively.
Stephen Riley and Crain finished first and fourth in the 400-meter dash with times of 49:09 and 51:03.
Riley ran the 200-meter dash in 22:11 for fourth place.
Charleston Lewis and Zac Sakaria took first and second in the shot put.
Lewis and Levi Jordan finished first and third in discus.
Eric Braeuer was third in the triple jump.
Anthony Huber and Braeuer took second and fifth in the high jump.
In the 400-meter relay, the team of Crain, Kyle Rhoads, Riley and White took second place in 42.39.
Belton's Lady Tigers fared very well, also.
Regan Tindell and Katelin Huckabee took first and third in the 1600 with times of 5:20 and 5:38.
Courtney Pate was third in the pole vault with a leap of 10'0".
Tamera Sellers took third in the 300-meters hurdles.
Ashlie Francis finished fourth in discus with a 106'6" throw.
Torie Henderson was fifth in the 100-meter dash.
The 4 X 100 meter relay team of Henderson, Risha Butler, Sellers and Pate placed fourth with a season-best hand-timed of 49.96.
The stage is set --- the athletes are primed. Field events (all finals) begin at 9 a.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, and running events start at 6 p.m. Monday (prelims) and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (finals). We will find out next week who advances to State.
