C. H. "Bud" HumphreyFuneral Services for C. H. "Bud" Humphrey, 86, of China Spring, formerly of Belton, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Dossman Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Mr. Humphrey died Sunday, July 4th in the Temple Veterans Hospital.
Mr. Humphrey was born January 31, 1924, in Belton, the son of Paul Humphrey and Mamie Alice Shumate Humphrey. He married Donna Christopher December 13, 1960. He worked various jobs including, professional Bull and Bareback Bronc rider, trained horses, sold horses and tack, drove log distance mail truck for Hershal Bland, and Centex Beverage in Austin. He retired from Centex Beverage in 1984.
Mr. Humphrey was known by his rodeo friends as Bud or Texas Bud.
He was a member of the Turtle Cowboy Association and Texas Rodeo Association, the Southwestern Rodeo Association where he was champion bareback bronc rider of the year in 1950 and 1951. He was a Gold Card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. He was a former member of the Old Time Rodeo Cowboy Association, Historical Rodeo Association and Cowboy Alumni Association. He was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Bell County Cowboy and Cowgirl Ring of Honor in 2001.
Mr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Humphrey and daughter Peggy Kristopherson.
Survivors include his wife Donna Humphrey of China Spring, son and daughter-in-law Charles Clinton and Linda Humphrey. Eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. One brother Billy Joe Humphrey of China Spring, three sisters Marie Kolls of Belton, Charlotte (Toad) Levi of Deming, New Mexico and Johnnie Lou Borden of Cleburne.
Memorials may be made to the Bell County Cowboy Cowgirl Ring of Honor.
