Debbie Awong

Debbie Awong, 59, formerly of Belton, died at her home in Taylor Jan 9. Services were held at Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel at 12 noon Jan. 13 with Pastor John Spence officiating. Mrs. Awong was born Oct. 14, 1952 to Jim Wattenbarger and Patsy Bizzell in Odessa.

She moved to Belton at age 12 with her family where she graduated from high school.

After her marriage she moved to Kennebunkport Me., where her serviceman husband was stationed. She owned and operated a business selling homemade chili to fishermen and restaurants.

She also designed children's clothes and accessories.

She was given the nickname "Gypsy" because of her love for travel. In 1982 she met Alvin Awong, Jr. They were married 27 years.

She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Cricket Campbell, sister Charlsey Ann King and her father, Jim Wattenbarger.

She is survived by daughters, Jonna Teer of Temple, April Lazarus of Belton and Rosemary Saunders of Taylor, sons Vincent Campbell, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dee Awong of Taylor; her stepfather, Charles King and mother, Patsy King; sisters, Kimberley Heald of Temple and Patricia Olsen of Troy, brother, Jim Wattenbarger, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Broecker Funeral Home of Salado was in charge of arrangements.
