BHS students honored at banquet

Belton High School sophomore Connor Leigh is congratulated by BISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon during the BHS Academic Awards Banquet on Jan. 12.Ninety Belton High School sophomore, junior and senior students were honored at the Academic Awards banquet on Jan. 12 for being in the top five percent of their class from the previous year. Featured speaker for the event was Bell County Sheriff Dan Smith.
The Academic Awards recognition began in 1985. Sophomore students honored this year were: Danae Allison, Nick Amato, Macy Banfield, Ethan Becker, Margueret Betbeze, Dustin Chen, Shelby Clemons, Jacob Daugherty, Ariel Davis, John Edwards, Brittan Elliot, Gus Farek, Jacob Fitzwater, Madison Goldston, Brooke Haugeberg, Manuel Hernandez, John Jennings, Sarah Lairmore, Connor Leigh, Chloe Lewis, Montana Minnis, Megan Nitcher, Marie Nugpo, Ryan Parker, Joseph Paruzinski, Hannah Pavel, Carlton Rice, Tyler Victoria Roden, Christopher Sauceda, Jarred Scaff, Luke Simerly, Samantha Stapper, Rebecca Stone, Samantha Waggoner, Christian-Daniel Wilson.
Junior students honored were: Mitch Anderson, Dusti Bridges, Spencer Brown, Austin Couillard, Jacob deKeratry, Rebecca Easley, Ashley Ellis, Kendra Emerson, Zayn Evans, Jessica Hagen, Carlynn Hickenbotham, Lauren Hutchens, Grace Hutchinson, Alexandra Johanson, Ryan Jones, Carlee Kemp, Magdalene Kramer, Bharath Lavendra, Melissa Montgomery, Charles Norton, Edgar Ortiz, Connor Przybylski, Joshua Reynolds, Peter Shelburne, Lucy Soerens, Kyler Tormey, Tony Velasquez, Margaret Villamaria.

Sophomore students received a red hooded sweatshirt. Junior students had a choice of a red letter jacket or plaque. Senior students had a choice of red letter jacket or blanket.
Also recognized were National Merit Commended Scholars – Freeman Brunaugh, Charles Austin Jordan, Frederick Dallas Jordan, Shannon Rice, Easton Robles, Lauren Trotter, Hadley Young; Hispanic Scholars – Alberto Garner, Shannon Rice, Easton Robles, Luciano Rocero; and National Achievement Scholar, Alexzandar Asea.
Senior honorees were able to select a teacher who had the greatest impact on them during their school career and invite them to the banquet and be featured in the Senior Tribute Booklet.
