The Lake Broncos Baseball team continued to press onward toward the postseason this week, as they visited Chaparral Friday evening in Killeen and University on Tuesday evening in Waco.
Lake spotted the Bobcats a run in the first inning. However, the Broncos scored in five of the next six innings on their way to a 9-1 win.
Maverik Maddux pitched six innings in the win, allowed an unearned run on five hits, struck out ten and walked two.
Ely Vaughan pitched a scoreless seventh to slam the door.
Bryce Davis led the Broncos with three hits and two RBI. Cooper Mees, and Logan Winkler each had two hits, and Jory Holland scored twice.
On Tuesday, Lake’s offense provided an eight-run fourth inning, and Brandon Holley fired a five-inning no-hitter as the Broncos shut out the Trojans, 11-0.
Rohde Smith scored on a passed ball in the first inning, and Davis scored on the passed ball in the second to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.
Lake broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Cole Mikulas’ two-run single and subsequently scoring on a wild pitch set up Cameron Bartz’s RBI single. Bartz scored on a wild pitch and Mees’ single brought in Smith. Mees and Zavian Rodriguez scored on passed balls to lift the Broncos’ lead to ten.
Ty Green’s ground out scored Holland to cap the scoring.
Mikulas had two RBI, Mees had two hits, and Smith and Davis each scored twice.
Holley struck out two and walked one, as he needed just 50 pitches over five innings in the win.
The Broncos’ fifth consecutive district baseball championship ties Bronco Softball with five straight titles.
Lake has a 50-game district winning streak dating back to 2022, which is tied for the second-longest streak in school history with Bronco Softball who had a 58-game district winning streak.
It will be a busy weekend for Lake, as they will play three games in four days. The Broncos will host University at Bronco Park on Friday.
Lake will play a pair of road tune-up games at Leander Rouse on Saturday and at Waco Midway on Monday. The Broncos defeated Midway 2-1 and 3-2 on Feb. 22 and Rouse 5-4 on April 12.
