The newly elected mayor and council members of Morgan’s Point Resort have started their new terms of office and were sworn in at the most recent council meeting.
The new Mayor is James “Jimbo” Snyder, member since 2023. Camille Bowser presented the certificates of election, completion of filing of statements of officer, administered the oaths of office, seating of newly elected council members, and the City Council selected Mayor Pro-Term Roxanne Stryker.
Synder congratulated the Council. “First, I want to say congratulations to the sitting Council. I look forward to working with you all. The previous Council was a blast. I thank those on the Council. I’ve learned a lot. Bruce, I know you have experience on the Council. Sam, welcome aboard. I know you have some history with politics as well. You will both bring a lot to the table to this new Council. look forward to continuing some of the momentum from the past two years.
With that, let’s get to work,” said Mayor Snyder. At the start of the meeting, citizens have the opportunity to comment on agenda items. They have three minutes to talk. By law, they can only talk about agenda items.
There was a request by a citizen to have The Hop in MPR, and other citizens thanked the Mayor and city council for their service and congratulated the new Mayor and City Council members.
There was a public hearing for a variance for property located at 15 Golden Poppy Loop. The requestors, Penny Engelking and Karl Weuste, requested to build a fence 15 feet from their original fence line. They wish to fence their current empty lot to utilize it more for gardening and a shed in the future, garage, or tiny home which they are considering for the future. There were diagrams submitted with the request for review.
The council also approved the consent agenda, to approve minutes of the regular City Council meeting on April 8, followed by approving an interlocal agreements with Bell County in regard to platting in the extraterritorial jurisdiction in section 242.001 Local Government Code. The agreement is that Bell County will authorize and regulate subdivision plats and approve permits at the County’s Engineer’s Office.
“One of the benefits of this is that whoever has the responsibility will be required to maintain the infrastructure maintenance, and that’s a cost we won’t bear by giving the county that authority,” said Mayor Snyder.
The financial director gave an update of an audit, fiscal years 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2021- 2025 bank reconciliation, and budget adjustments and amendments. The city manager gave an update on FEMA, TDEM, Public work brush zone clearing, water storage tank progress, TXDOT sidewalk project, RFQs for storm water and general engineering, purchasing module, and roadway plan.
The next regular City Council workshop will b June 10 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6 p.m. at the Garrett and Mic Hill Event Center. MPR workshops and meetings are recorded, and the videos are posted on youtube.com.
