A 78-year-old man from Houston died on Sunday after he and his wife were separated from their boat while on Belton Lake, at Roger’s Park near Morgan’s Point Resort.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office said that around 1:36 p.m., a 9-1-1 call came in, reporting that there was a boater in trouble.

Citizens had gone to the aid of a male and female in the water, and the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan’s Point Resort Fire Department, Morgan’s Point Resort Police Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Rangers responded to the incident.

Once on the scene, they learned that resuscitation had been started on the male and continued.

Both were transported to the emergency department at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple. However, the male, Charles Edward Dickson, succumbed to his injuries.

Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey was notified and ordered an autopsy.

“The Dickson family is in our thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.

“We are also grateful to the citizens who stepped in to assist during this tragic incident.”
