On Friday, a tour and ribbon cutting was held for the new state-of-the-art imaging Seton Medical Center Harker Heights located at 2812 Oakmark Drive in Belton.
Staff, Belton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the public gathered to celebrate at 11 am.
Tables decorated with skeletons and flowers also held trays and cups of cookies, red grapes, and small cheese cubes.
Lucy Taylor, director of marketing, and Dr. Bodie Cornell, chief medical officer, gave tours of the new facility. Each room has its designated specialty. One room is for X-rays, another for ultrasound, one for CT scans, and one for MRIs.
The Belton location, with its own dedicated staff, will have Harker Heights staff fill in from time to time.
Speaking about the new location, Cornell said, “We do the same things in both places. This is just increasing capacity and increasing access for this side of the county. We have CT here, we have plain X-ray, we have ultrasound, and then the MRI machine. And we can do all four of those modalities. Probably the only thing that we do in Harker Heights that we don’t do here right now is mammograms.”
Cornell explained the importance of the new location, convenient for patient care. It is located near Freedom Urgent Care and Wellstone Health Partner Family Medicine Clinic.
Cornell said, “It may take 60 or 90 days to get in for an MRI. So just increasing the access, trying to bring it in to our patients.”
Taylor pointed out, “There’s a lot of confusion in parking here. Generally, if you’re coming to imaging or something like this facility, you’re probably on crutches or not feeling too well. You don’t want to be having to park in a large parking lot and navigate a hospital.
COO/CNO Mandy Shaffier, said during the ceremony, “We are very proud to reaffirm our commitment to the vital services and health care they’re known for in a large needed in our communities.”
Chamber President/CEO, Randy Pittenger, helped with the official Belton Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new Belton location expects to start seeing patients in early November.
