January 30, 2025

March 12, 1954 – January 19, 2025

Sharon (Sherry) Dianne Slater went home to be with our Lord on January 19th, 2025. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was 70 years old.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas.

Sherry was born on March 12th, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas to Ocia and Audrey Whitmire Pond.

Sherry married Michael (Mike) Slater on January 29, 1977, in Lubbock, Texas. They had two children, Bethany was born in April of 1980, and Brandon was born in July of 1982. Mike and Sherry moved their young family to Fort Worth in 1985 and joined Wedgwood Baptist Church. They were together until his death on January 2nd, 2004.

Sherry was a wonderful mother to her children and wife to her husband. She worked as a secretary for Jackie Carden Elementary from 1993 – 2003 before moving to Aledo ISD in 2003. During her time at Aledo, she worked as a secretary in the Special Education department, a Certification Specialist in Human Resources, and served as the Transportation Secretary before she retired in 2021.

Sherry loved spending time with her family, watching movies, reading, and playing cards. She was super competitive during card games and taught her children everything she knew. Her favorite thing, besides her grandchildren, was quilting. She was involved in a quilting ministry at Wedgwood and was very close with the ladies in that group. Over the years she likely designed and created dozens of baby quilts that were donated to Pregnancy Lifeline in Fort Worth. She made her family and close friends quilts as well as making her children t-shirt quilts from Mike’s old t-shirts after he passed away.

Sherry was a very giving person and went out of her way to help others in need. She loved her family well and spent a life well lived. She missed Mike so much after his passing and is finally reunited with him.

Sherry is survived by her daughter Bethany & husband Joshua Miller of Temple, Texas, son Brandon Slater of Fort Worth, Texas, brother Whitt Patrick Pond and his wife Thanh of Boston, Massachusetts, and grandsons Cameron & Michael Chapman.

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Sherry.
