The Tigers are coming off another impressive season, and there is reason to believe they are not done yet.

After posting a school-record 30 victories two seasons ago, Belton almost repeated the feat under new head coach Phil McCaslin, who led the program to a 28-8 overall record and a bi-district championship in his debut.

As with every season, however, the Tigers will undoubtedly lose talent to graduation, but opposing coaches believe the team has a key piece to continue building around.

Belton junior forward Daniel Briscoe was recently named 16-5A All-District Newcomer of the Year after helping the Tigers finish tied for second in the standings with a 7-3 record.

Additionally, junior teammate Noah Childers, a shooting guard and small forward, was placed on the second team.

Belton also saw sophomores Ty Johnson, a forward, and point guard Luke Munden, junior Jay’dn Loggins and senior guards Easton Barrett and Jason Green named as honorable mentions.

Lake Belton struggled on the court, but like the Tigers, plenty of potential remains after winning just one district game.

Dezmin Ravizee, a junior, received the Broncos’ loftiest recognition, landing on the second team, while four teammates — senior Nelson Hayes, junior Kendrick Jones Jr. and sophomores Mikey Lockett and Allen Muchunu — were honorable mentions.

No. 3 Ellison dominated the list after falling just shy of reaching the state championship game for a third consecutive season.

The Eagles went undefeated en route to the district title behind most valuable player Jojo McIver, a guard. The senior was a unanimous selection for the award, just like Ellison head coach Alberto Jones Jr., who was unanimously named coach of the year.

Furthermore, Eagles junior guard Sean Parks was named defensive player of the year.

Ellison also had two first-team selections in senior Darone Leakes and sophomore Marneko Thomas, and junior teammate Elijah Bass was placed on the second team.

The Eagles (30-6) won 15 consecutive games before falling to No. 6 Mansfield Summit 48-40 in the Division II state semifinal.

Rounding out the superlatives, Waco University junior London Smith was named offensive player of the year after helping the Trojans tie Belton for second place.
