A little rain may have changed the plans, but it didn’t dampen the spirit. Although the United Way Spirit Chain presentation did not take place on the fi eld due to the chance of inclement weather, Belton ISD students and staff already made a big impact, raising $5,396.17 for the United Way of Central Texas through the district’s annual Spirit Chain fundraiser, a beloved fall tradition that turns school spirit into community impact.
Over a twoweek period, students
across the district purchased spirit chain
links for 25 cents each, watching their col-
orful chains grow longer each day as their
generosity added up.
Students at Charter Oak Elementary show off their spirit chain, formed as part of the campus’ United Way fundraiser. Altogether, Belton ISD raised more than $5,000 for the local United Way.
Elementary campuses raised $1,430.56, middle schools brought in $469.61 and high schools added $120. Those student donations, combined with $340 in one-time staff gifts and $3,036 in pledged payroll contributions, brought the total to $5,396.17. These funds will help United Way support critical initiatives in health, financial stability, education and basic needs for families across Central Texas.
“This tradition is about so much more than coins and paper links,” said Belton ISD Superintendent Dr. Malinda Golden. “It’s about students understanding that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact. Together, we’re helping build a stronger community.”
The Spirit Chain fundraiser is one of the many ways Belton ISD students live out the district’s Journey of a Graduate competencies, especially empathy, collaboration and perseverance, by working together for a cause bigger than themselves.
“Belton ISD has a long history of step- ping up for our community,” said Manuel Alcozer, Belton ISD Board President. “Seeing our students lead with heart and purpose is inspiring. Their efforts show the true strength of our Big Red Community; when we come together, we make a real difference.”
