The Belton Tigers and Lady Tigers cross country teams are gearing up for what promises to be another exciting and competitive season in 2025. After an impressive showing last year, both teams are focused on continuing their success at the district, regional, and state levels.

The Lady Tigers enter the new season with high expectations following a standout 2024 campaign. Last fall, the girls captured the 16-5A District Championship with a commanding team performance, scoring just 40 points to claim the title. That victory propelled them to the UIL 5A Region II Cross Country Meet at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, where they finished 11th out of 24 teams.

Leading the way was senior Olivia Brillhart, who placed 4th overall out of 174 runners with an outstanding time of 18:45. Her performance qualified her for the UIL State Cross Country Meet for the fourth consecutive year. At the State Meet in Round Rock, Brillhart capped off a phenomenal high school career by placing 26th overall out of 148 runners with a time of 19:10.

Her consistency, leadership, and dedication were highly important in the Lady Tigers’ success. Now committed to run at the University of Houston, Brillhart leaves behind a lasting legacy and a motivated group of returning runners ready to carry the torch.

This year’s Lady Tigers squad returns several experienced upperclassmen who were key contributors during last year’s championship run. With a mix of veteran leadership and young talent that excelled at the JV level in 2024 — including a first-place finish for the JV girls at District — the team is aiming for another district title and a stronger showing at Regionals. Their goal is clear: return to the state meet with more than one qualifier.

On the boys’ side, the Tigers finished as district runner-up in 2024 and qualified for the Region II meet, where they placed 19th overall out of 24 teams. Senior David Shelburne was the team’s top performer, finishing 31st out of 185 runners. His graduation opens the door for rising upperclassmen to step into leadership roles. With a strong offseason and solid competitive depth, the Tigers are focused on improving their regional placement and challenging for a district title.

With solid returning talent, a tradition of postseason success, and a program culture built on hard work and resilience, the 2025 Belton Cross Country season is set to add to the trophy cases once again.
