Lois Smith Cabaniss

June 2, 1934 – June 1, 2025

Lois Smith Cabaniss, 90, of Salado, Texas, passed away June 1, 2025, just one day shy of her 91st birthday.

Born in Bonnieville, Kentucky on June 2, 1934, Lois was number seven of the nine children born to Leslie Smith and Maggie Richardson Smith. Lois enjoyed cheerleading and spending time with friends and family while in high school. She graduated from Vine Grove High School in 1952 at the age of 17 and promptly went to work in civil service at Fort Knox, KY for 38 years.

While working there, Lois met and married the love of her life, Tempe Cabaniss of Salado, TX. They were married June 23, 1961, in Radcliff, Kentucky, and were seldom apart for the next 62 years.

Upon retirement, Lois and Tempe sold their home in Kentucky and began their adventure as full-time RVers. They spent a decade traveling the country, heading north in the summer and south in the winter, before settling in Salado and building a home near their daughter Lisa. Lois and Tempe were members of the 15th Street Church of Christ in Temple, Texas.

Lois was known for her devotion to her husband and family, her fantastic cooking and baking skills, and her gentle teasing manner. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and being with family. She was a loving wife and mother, and a proud grandmother.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Maggie Smith; husband Tempe Cabaniss; sisters Geneva, Ilene, Mildred, Martha, Hazel, and Sue; and brothers, Junior and Jimmy.
