It did not happen until late in the match. To the Lake Belton Volleyball program and its fans, they were excited to see the milestone at Bronco Gymnasium.
Senior Kaitlyn Hutchins’ 16th kill of the match came at a clutch time: a cannonading blast onto the Leander Glenn side of the court to cut off a Grizzly rally and gave the Broncos match point. Lake slammed the door on the match on the next point to pick a hard-earned sweep against a talented Glenn squad.

Scores of the match were 26-24, 25-19, and 25-22.
“This was a big win for us tonight,” Hutchins said. “We worked super hard in practice, came out, and competed.”
“I am so proud of the way the team battled tonight, and I love that Kaitlyn was able to get to 1,000 kills here at home,” Lake Belton head coach Allison Waits said.
The Broncos (9-6) grabbed an 8-4 lead in game one, with Hutchins converting a kill and an ace early, and Ava Wood and Madi Bingham each picking up two kills.
Glenn worked their way back into the game with a 15-8 stretch to take a 19-17 lead.
Hutchins, Wood, Bingham, Madi Jackman, and Makinzi Johnson picked up kills late, with Wood’s set-ending blast having given the Broncos an early match advantage.
Lake never trailed in game two, as Bingham contributed an early ace as the Broncos led 4-0, and extended their lead to as many as seven points. Wood, Hutchins, Abbi Jones, and Morgan Kukulski were set up well from solid plays from Bingham, Natalia Partida, Keileigh Krueger, and Kruz Smith to pace the Broncos to a six-point win.
The Broncos did not trail in game three, as Lake led by six points in the middle of the set before Glenn made a late push as they pulled to within four points, 23-19.
It set the stage for Bingham’s set from right to left along the net front, which Hutchins eagerly slammed to the deck on the Glenn side for game point, match point, and career kill 1,000.
“For awhile there, I felt like I was getting unlucky with some of the shots,” Hutchins said. “When we got the free ball back, I told myself that this was it. It finally came, and it was really cool. It was neat to see the reaction from the whole gym.”
The milestone, reached early in Hutchins’ senior year, is a monumental one for the Bronco program. And one that will propel the team going forward.
Hutchins finished the night with a teamhigh 17 kills.
