Odie Daniel Irwin

November 6, 1949 – October 9, 2025

Odie Daniel Irwin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 6, 1949, in Marlin, Texas, Odie was a steadfastly dedicated man who revolved around family, community, and the love of sports.

Odie dedicated much of his life to public service, working for the City Water Works of Marlin and Temple until his retirement. He was also a proud member of the National Guard, serving his country for four years. His sense of loyalty, humor, and community was a testament to his character and values.

Educated at Marlin High School, Odie showcased his love for sports from an early age, excelling in both football and baseball. His passion for these sports carried through his life, transitioning from player to teacher as he coached his little league and imparted his knowledge to his grandchildren. Odie took immense pride in the fact that his family shared his love of sports, and he cherished the countless memories they created together, whether through games, gatherings, or simply enjoying each other’s company over outdoor picnics.

In 2004, Odie’s life took a beautiful turn when he reconnected with the love of his life, Mary Perez Irwin, at a local restaurant. Their romance blossomed quickly, culminating in their marriage on September 1, 2004. Together, they merged their families, embarking on a new chapter filled with love and togetherness, raising their grandchildren and creating precious memories that will last a lifetime.

Odie was known for his warm-hearted personality and his love for hosting gatherings where his delightfully friendly and fun-loving spirit was contagious. He always made family man through and through, and his family was his greatest joy. He enjoyed activities like long drives, washing and restoring cars, and barbecues that brought everyone together.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Mary Perez Irwin; four sons, Brad Irwin, Lawyer (sic) Lopez and wife Sonya, Richard Lopez and wife Gina, and Marty Lopez; one daughter, Heather Hicks; one brother, Sammy Irwin; one sister, Gloria Lewis; and eleven grandchildren along with several great-grandchildren who will carry their spirit in their hearts.

Odie is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Irwin and Lottie Irwin, and one brother, Michael Irwin.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at a later date where family and friends will gather to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who loved and served his family and community. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
