Woodland Cottages, a local retirement community volleyball team, the Hit Squad, invited Lake Belton girls’ volleyball team, the Broncos, to play chair volleyball. The matchup occurred Monday evening, October 6, at the Cottages, on River Fair Boulevard.

The Hit Squad welcomed the Broncos while in disguise. Walkers, canes, and bathrobes were used to underplay their abilities. They quickly took off the disguises to begin the games, revealing dark blue team t-shirts.
The Broncos received chair volleyball instructions before the games began. First, the ball is a beach ball. Second, each player is to remain fully seated during the game.
Quinton Locklin, a seniors real estate agent, emceed the lively event.
Resident Cyryl Unger, a line judge, held up a blue or red folder to assist the scoreboard keeper, Adele Heath. Unger said, “I keep the ladies straight.”
Charlotte Wheeler, Hit Squad team member, said, “We just laugh and laugh when we practice.”
Bronco team member Morgan Kukulski said, “I just look forward to meeting new people, like talking, getting to know people. I think it’ll be really fun.”
Thia Allsion, a Bronco team member, said, “I’m also really excited to have fun. And, you know, I’m also ready to get some wisdom and skills from those who know more than I do.”
Residents, team members, and guests came to watch the teams play. Some fans held homemade signs in support. Woodland Cottages provided snacks and pizza for all in attendance.
The Broncos won three of the five rounds; however, the Hit Squad scored more points overall, with results as follows:
- Game 1: 15–13 Broncos
- Game 2: 15–14 Broncos
- Game 3: 4–15 Hit Squad
- Game 4: 12–15 Hit Squad
