Lake Belton battled throughout four competitive quarters Tuesday night but came up short in a 66–54 loss to China Spring, a game that remained within reach before the Cougars pulled away down the stretch.
The Broncos showed early energy and physicality, matching China Spring’s tempo and staying composed in a back-and-forth first half. Lake Belton leaned on scoring and active defense to keep pressure on the Cougars, forcing turnovers and generating transition opportunities. However, China Spring’s ability to capitalize on key possessions proved to be the difference as the game wore on.
Ameer Williams led all Broncos with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 17 points and four rebounds. Williams attacked the basket consistently and provided a steady scoring presence when Lake Belton needed answers. Dez Ravizee followed with 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals, showcasing his impact and pushing the pace defensively.
Allen Muchunu added 12 points and two rebounds, giving Lake Belton a third scoring option and helping keep the offense balanced.
The Broncos also received valuable contributions from Nick Martin, who totaled four points, four rebounds, and three steals, and Jackson Striegler, who finished with four points, four rebounds, and an assist. Mikey Lockett chipped in four points and four rebounds, while Avery Diaz and Christian Onchweri contributed on the glass with three and two rebounds, respectively.
Despite the effort, China Spring used a strong second-half push to separate. The Cougars capitalized on second-chance points and timely perimeter shooting, gradually extending their lead and limiting Lake Belton’s late comeback chances. The Broncos continued to compete defensively, but China Spring’s execution down the stretch sealed the outcome.
Lake Belton will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for a key matchup Friday night against Gatesville. Gatesville enters the contest with a 15–6 overall record and familiarity with the Broncos after the teams split their previous meetings last season. Lake Belton claimed the first matchup 70–63, while Gatesville answered with a narrow 52–50 win in the second meeting.
For Lake Belton, controlling the tempo, limiting turnovers, and finishing defensive possessions will be crucial. Continued production from Williams, Ravizee, and Muchunu, along with rebounding support from the rest of the rotation, could be the difference as the Broncos aim to secure the win and build momentum heading deeper into the season.
