Communities In Schools of Greater Central Texas (CIS) will hold its 18th annual Shoes 4 Kids Drive November 15 through December 15 to collect shoes for children in need.
And for the second consecutive year, CIS is partnering with KCEN-TV to gather new or gently worn shoes for elementary, middle school and high school children registered in the CIS program.
Sizes needed range from youth one to seven years, men's 7-14 and women's 7-11. Tennis shoes or sneakers must be appropriate for school aged children.

To help bolster the shoe drive, CIS and KCEN-TV hosted a drop off day on Wednesday, November 19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carlson Law Firm.
Michael Dewees, CIS executive director, said, "The community really stepped up last year and the in person drop off was very successful as nearly 300 pairs of shoe were donated".
CIS conducts the shoe drive each year to help fill a basic need for many students.
"Shoes represent more than just an item of clothing for our students," said Dewees. "They can also add to a child's self esteem as many youngsters are teased for having shoes that don't fit properly, are severely worn or not the proper footwear for a special occasion or physical activity".
"For nearly two decades, this campaign has provided thousands of students in our area with brand new and gently used shoes - helping them walk into classrooms with confidence, comfort and dignity".
Aided by the shoe drop off event last year, CIS collected more than 800 pairs of shoes in 2024 which exceeded the number collected the previous two years.
"The increased donations enabled CIS to provide assistance to many more students who lacked proper footwear during the school year," said Dewees. "And as the need for shoes continues to grow, our goal is to help families who lack the financial ability provide this necessity for their kids in our program".
In addition to the drop off day, shoe donations may also be made at the Communities In Schools office in Killeen at 4520 E. Central Texas Expressway, Suite 106; the Carlson Law Firm offices in Killeen (100 East Central Texas Expressway) and Temple (2010 SW HK Dodgen Loop, Suite 201); the Student Lounge inside the Central Texas College Student Center (Bldg. 220); and at the Salado Civic Center at 601 N. Main Street. CIS will also accept monetary donations to purchase shoes for those kids whose shoe size was not met with the shoe drive.
As a local nonprofit organization, CIS serves students in the Killeen, Copperas Cove, Temple, Salado and Jarrell independent school districts. Its mission is to positively impact the lives of children and helping them achieve the success they often find unattainable. Last year, CIS assisted more than 6,300 students to help them stay in school, improve academically, improve attendance, improve behavior and graduate.
