MPR Council OKs fi re equipment grant, hires fi rm to search for new city manager
January 29, 2026
Morgan’s Point Resort City Council accepted a $25,000 Rural VFD Assistance Program grant during last week’s meeting.
The total project cost associated with the fire program grant is $26,250. Up to $25,000 will be reimbursed through the grant under a 95-percent-cost-share structure. The remaining $1,250 will be funded by the city using already budgeted funds.
Morgan’s Point Resort was notified of its selection to receive the grant to purchase fire and rescue equipment — fire hose, nozzles, a portable fire pump, wildland-specific portable radios and a mobile radio. The grant money can only be used for approved purchases.
The grant allows the city to modernize and improve fire and rescue equipment while minimizing the financial impact on MPR’s general fund.
Also at the last Council meeting, a resolution was passed to contract with Clean Career Professionals for the search for a new MPR city manager.
In a letter to residents of Morgan’s Point Resort the day following the Council meeting, Mayor James (Jimbo) Sawyer said: “The current city manager’s contract is set to expire at the end of April, and over the last two to three months, Council has been in discussion with him.”
“After considering several factors, both the city manager and City Council decided last night, during the regularly scheduled Council meeting, to allow the contract to expire and begin the search for a new city Manager,” Sawyer said in his letter.
“Clean Career Professions LLC will conduct the search and begin immediately to allow time for the process to work,” he said. “This does nothing to change the day-to-day operation for the city of Morgan’s Point Resort, and we will continue to conduct business as we currently are.”
“I expect a smooth transition from our current city manager to the next city manager,” Sawyer continued. “This was a mutual decision, and Dennis Baldwin is leaving on good terms. He will continue to serve MPR until his contract expires or as needed once a new city manager is located.”
Clean Career Professionals is a Texas- and Montana-based executive recruitment and consulting firm founded in 2022.
The company will gather information from local government and community stakeholders, then create a recruiting brochure and reach out to potential candidates.
It will also post brochure information in national, state and regional print and online publications.
Potential candidates will be screened, and semifinalists will be interviewed, according to CCP information. Once the field is narrowed to a handful of finalists, Clean Career will conduct a verification process to make sure resume information is all true and correct.
Then, a new MPR city manager will be selected and announced.
Baldwin said it has been an “honor and privilege serving the residents of Morgan’s Point Resort.”
“I sincerely want to thank our mayor and City Council for their steadfast leadership and friendship during my tenure,” he said. “Our employees have and continue to serve this community with honor and distinction. I’m proud of their accomplishments and I’m honored to have served with them.”
